Karen Horney used the phrase “the tyranny of the should”, which reflects how we can ‘should’ ourselves into doing things we don’t want to do, or doing things we do want to do without recognising them as our choices (which, as you note, changes how we feel about them).

Facts / Feelings / Future comes to mind. More typically used in critical incident debriefing but you can see its applicability to the theme refer to.
