My statement on the United States Supreme Court's decision to profile individuals based on their occupation, race, or language:
In California, we have spent years striving to uphold the principles of liberty and justice for all. This includes eliminating racial profiling in law enforcement, employment, schools, and all aspects of our lives. While there is still work to be done, the recent decision by the United States Supreme Court to permit ICE agents to racially profile individuals based on their occupation, race, or language is a clear act of racism. I urge my fellow elected officials to stand against this harmful practice that threatens our communities and undermines our shared values.

My statement on #ACA8 on California’s congressional redistricting:
Today, I voted in support of legislation that would give voters the choice to redraw congressional districts in response to Trump's anti-democratic efforts to steal House seats. This is not a decision that I or my colleagues take lightly. Still, there is no way California can stand idly by to watch President Trump and his cronies intentionally chisel away at the fundamental pillars of our American democracy. This is a necessary step to ensure that we protect democracy and that California's voice is still heard, regardless of the noise caused from the federal administration. In the coming weeks, I will share information with you about the proposition so that you can make an informed decision in this election. Voters will have an opportunity to vote on the congressional redistricting ballot initiative on November 4th.

Assemblymember Boerner has decided to hold AB 353, a bill that would have resulted in affordable internet plans for low-income Californians. The following is her statement on the decision:   “Unfortunately, due to President Trump’s drastic new changes (https://www.ntia.gov/other-publication/2025/fact-sheet-ending-biden-s-broadband-burdens) to the Broadband, Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program, I have made the difficult decision to shelve my legislation that requires internet service providers to provide affordable home broadband internet to low-income Californians. The new BEAD program regulations implemented by the Trump’s loyalists at the NTIA push the bounds of federal jurisdiction over state’s rights, as we have seen over and over with this dangerous Administration. Although I fundamentally disagree about the federal government’s authority to preempt California’s rights in this space, the change has introduced too much legal uncertainty and put at risk $1.86 billion dollars in federal broadband infrastructure funding that I know the Trump administration would take joy in keeping from Californians. President Trump’s new rules only serve to benefit corporate internet service providers taking public subsidies at the expense of low-income Americans.”   “Although I am pausing my bill for now, I am committed to working with my colleague Senator Durazo on her effort to expand the state’s existing Lifeline telecommunications program to allow support for home internet access. I look forward to working my colleagues in the Assembly and the Senate to make sure no Californians are left without an essential service that impact their ability to participate in everyday life.”
