it is really horrible how many people believe they ought to live a broken, mutilated half-life, that accepting one's life as a depraved tragedy is how the light gets in, that salvation means admitting you ruined it all when you were 19

the squirrel is a clue, i think, to the disappearance of a classmate. i had climbed around an oak tree dodging the slugs looking for evidence of him, but no luck, just a paralyzed squirrel.

in the dreams, nobody knows much about them. their appearance is chalked up to climate change but nobody seems to study them. i find a squirrel barely clinging to life and carefully put him in a box, hoping someone in this school’s science department will take a look.
