My OCD has superpower aspects. Advocates monthly town meetings at Dunkin' in breakaway NE. Dreams of being an economist. Assume it's a failed attempt at humor. Don't want the drama.
Let me recommend Clay Shirky's excellent HERE COMES EVERYBODY. It really puts into perspective why different platforms came about, their use and such. A bit dated (Facebook was nascent) but I'm sure you could use this foundation and update it. Great read.

I came here for this. DO NOT CREATE TORMENT NEXUS MACHINE.

I believe.

In 88 Pat Robertson abandoned his Prez bid and focused on taking over school boards and local seats. He created the bench. Then, Contract with America, 9/11, Tea Party, Trump.... each wave had folks read to step up and primary the establishment.

Dems gotta do that.

I agree with the second part, but I also think the Dems and Biden did not bang the pro-industrial deals he pushed through. No connection. The GOP controlled the conversation throughout and even took credit for the $$$ and jobs when it came to town. Dems have no game.

Oh, it's popular. Just not with anyone with power.

I guess that's more the line I'm thinking of--linking blue ideas to old Progressive history. Back to the future. Kinda like trad wives and folks reviving Grange halls.

At a certain point, people see the kids having fun and they shrug and say, "Well, sure."

More of this type of civic pride. That'll pack the kids in.

That dead, huh. Sigh.

The "Boys will be boys" defense is pretty compelling. Plus, "You don't want to ruin these young boy's lives" line.

Young Republican Racist Men: These are young kids just goofing (in their 20s).

Epstein Victims: Well, 15 is practically an old maid.

I miss the COVID year and random times and Tuesday Night Football because.

With Cam Newton as our QB (Pats) post-Brady it really felt like anyone could win at any time.

Yeah. But can the Dems sell the Midwest? I keep hearing about the pockets of, say, gay Iowa and fun and not everything is in NYCity. Like, there has gotta be some draw for interesting people to stay in St. Louis?

BBQ? Or is it that bereft of interesting people or things?
November 16, 2025 at 3:42 PM
If you think that our current overlords are just a private equity selling the US for parts it all makes sense.

We are left with the empty warehouse and the property tax bill and a broken office chair.
November 16, 2025 at 3:32 PM
Appalachia has a long history of blue unions (coal). The Midwest was the hotbed of Progressivism. It's in the blood.

Dems have not fed that and the GOP has filled their heads with gripes and hate. Feed the best of them.

Southern Spear doesn't even make sense.

Like, it's wide and the tip of a spear is very pointy. The reference is about a specific attack point. It's a little boy trying to sound tough and who doesn't get metaphors.

Yet, my gerrymandering efforts in Vermont will pay dividends. We'll squeeze Ballint out!

I appreciate the Teddy Roosevelt reference.

If Trump was smart (he's not) he'd wrap himself in Teddy lore--South American intervention, the White Fleet and his attitude against congress, bully pulpit....
November 16, 2025 at 12:16 PM
Yes and no.

What separates us their willingness to do it. Like, I'd never upgrade to first class because I'd be thinking about the cost, etc. I can't leave others holding the bag. These guys just assume someone will pick up the mess.

Everything I know about wealth and networking I learned from WOOSTER AND JEEVES. So, Chuff Chuffington (aka "Chuffy") is of course familiar because they bonded over that night with too much scotch and.....

I just want someone break the cycle by giving him Chicago style BBQ or something. The sports thing is done.

If you read the article you'll see that hole is for their tiny member they're so insecure about. Then they hang the knife off it. Game changer.
November 16, 2025 at 12:05 PM
Counterpoint: I have always seen the Midwest as having the history of Progressives--Fighting Bob LaFayette, land grant colleges and all that--and Appalachia as a history of union blue (coal). It's in the blood.

But Dems don't fight those battles anymore; GOP fills the gap with outrage and gripes.

I miss original Hulu. Like, all of the networks said "We have this catalog just sitting there...." plus streaming current shows if you missed it. Just dead catalog, really. And for $6.

Now, each network has several apps and none are really worth the price.

I was unsatisfied with the puny offerings so made a village where every house was a day and you lifted it to reveal the candy. But, I made it like the game Operation and my kids had to get the candy out without hitting the sides or a buzzer went off.

My wife hated it (it stressed her out).
