Meanwhile, the Times scooped the Post on the Virginia redistricting story. I'm among many who dropped subscriptions to the Post this year due to the paper abandoning local coverage. Begging for us to "come back" isn't going to sell any subscriptions.

Here's a question to ask as you're talking to folks about this: Is this about next year's election or this year's? This seems like an awfully risky October move unless you have polling that tells you most 2025 voters like seeing Va. Democrats standing up to Trump this way.

A plausible explanation for some of the drop: Their gift links now require recipients to create a login on the site with their email address before reading the gifted item. This has effectively made their paywall taller. And it probably has caused some subscribers to give up on sending gift links.
