I have more stories like this, but for anyone considering Birthright or thinking it’s not a big deal… it is. I regret going.

The turning point for me was when we were at some decommissioned military base on a large hill. There were IDF soldiers laughing at a video someone was showing on their phone. It was a video of a bomb one of their drones dropped on a hospital in Syria

They took us to a bomb shelter in the Gaza Strip that was an indoor playground to try to show us how scary it was for Israeli children, never once talking about what they were doing to Palestinians

They tried to convince us to make Aliyah (move to Israel) and join the IDF

For the entire trip, our tour guides, IDF soldiers who stayed with us, security guard and trip leaders were pushing anti-Palestinian propaganda on us

I went because I figured it would be a cool free trip to a country I’ve never been to

At the time I was completely ignorant and uneducated to what Netanyahu and the IDF were doing
