This Sunday, indie animation maestro and recent ASIFA-East winner Bill Plympton will be at Metrograph theater, with a program called “Plympton’s Twisted Toons”. Bill will screen two of his animated features, MARRIED A STRANGE PERSON! (1997) and CHEATIN’ (2013).

Dogs are the best. Indie Animation Icon Bill Plympton never had a dog, but from observing them in a park he conjured this animated short GUARD DOG about a dog who wants to protect his caregiver at all costs. The film delighted millions of people and got nominated for an Oscar. Check it out!

Yesterday I went to ASIFA-East jury screening, so I can vote on which films get to the ASIFA-East Festival. It was great to catch up with local animation gossip and the obscured-from-the-public scandals. No one cares about animation gossip except for animators.

The National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) presents “ANIMATION CELEBRATION!”, a collection of Indigenous short animated films, part of the museum’s Art of Storytelling program. The screening plays 3x a day all of February. The shorts are also on Demand: americanindian.si.edu/animation-ce...
