Reading some Burner, thanks @hannahkrieg.bsky.social! I really hope I'm being paranoid at the thought of Bruce & Sara using their power over the Commision to squash their political opponents. Sadly, I can see them going "Deny Foster & Wilson limitation releases or you're all getting booted".

Exerpt from The Burner Article "Corporate Donors Back Sara Nelson — Dionne Foster Bets On The People" stating "DVP candidates such as Foster (and most candidates in the municipal elections) get to solicit publicly financed donations from people who may not otherwise contribute, but the program comes with some additional rules. DVP candidates in at-large council races, such as Foster, can only accept individual donations up to $350. Non-participants, such as Nelson, can accept individual donations up to $650. Foster can only spend $450,000 during her race and only $225,000 before the primary. Nelson can raise as much as she wants. However, Foster can appeal to the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission to be released from these limitations as soon as her opponent officially files given how much she’s raised."

Exerpt from the Seattle.gov page on the Ethics & Elections Commision stating "The Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission is an independent committee of seven citizen volunteers. The Mayor and the City Council each appoint three Commissioners, and the Commissioners select the seventh. All are confirmed by the City Council and serve three-year terms. Commissioners may be reappointed at the end of their regular terms."

Further reading of @thestranger.com, & in their Slog this morning by @hmwinter.bsky.social they do a fairly good job on reporting Trump's Big Bad Bill except for excluding that it is now set to ban federally funded transgender healthcare for *everyone*, which feels like a glaring omission.

The Stranger Slog article stating "The Big Beautiful Bill: Trump may have signed a record number of executive orders in his first 100 days, but this legislative session has been exceptionally unproductive. So yesterday, when Trump showed up on Capitol Hill, he was ready to force some action, saying that failure to pass his bill “would be the ultimate betrayal.” Despite some major inter-party concerns about healthcare cuts, House Republicans fell in line. They started their debate before midnight, had a slumber party, and by dawn, they passed Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, 215-214. This bill extends $4.5 trillion in Trump 1.0-era tax breaks, and makes good on his campaign commitment to get rid of taxes on tips. It also would cost 8.6 million people their healthcare coverage, and push 3 million people off of SNAP benefits. And of course, it adds $200 million in spending on deportation and border security. Next up: the Senate, who plan to have their version ready by the Fourth of July."

Just read "Denny Blaine Beach Group Meets With SPD, City Leaders" by @vivmccall.bsky.social in @thestranger.com, very disappointing to see the framing of a queerphobe as a philanthopist trying to help cure cancer. How is that relevant at all to the article if not to try to make him look good?

The Stranger article stating "By summer, there was a plan to build a deterrent in the form of a children's playground. Sloan, the millionaire owner of University Village and a philanthropist who gave $78 million to Fred Hutch Cancer Center in 2022, would foot the bill and anonymously donated $1 million for construction. That June, public records show, Sloan and Emery met at City Hall. Five weeks later, they met at a Starbucks near the beach. Shortly after, Emery and Andy Sheffer, the deputy superintendent of Parks, paid Sloan a visit at home."
