It is well known amongst intellectual men that casually stroking your beard while thinking gives you +5 to your Intelligence check

Step 1: collect everything in the game including consumables

Step 2: never use consumables or any other item

Step 3: burn out halfway through the game trying to discover and collect everything

????

Don’t profit 😔

When #PathofExile2 leaves early access (launch) it will be a free game.

So if you’re really not sure you can wait until then to try it with no barrier to entry.

It will have seasonal mechanics but you can also just ignore them and play Standard League.

When video games started, they started as art & exploration first before business

When mobile gaming started it began as a “how can we make LOTS of money with this”

It never had a heart at the center and suffered greatly under the Silicon Valley mindset

This is a good science fiction novel premise

No! You’re not supposed to actually finish one

You’re supposed to get 65% of the way there and then get distracted by the next shiny thing

That’s definitely fair, formulization
is contentious in the book world too.

I’m interested in finding a good way to implement it into the creative process, though I’m not quite sure of the answer.

Psychological profiles? Connected to audience demographics? Some of that leans too marketing too

In the same that novel narrative structure became formulaic (Save the Cat, etc.) I think game narrative structure could benefit. The structure has psychological points consistent throughout.

Video games are a much more complicated medium though.

There is definitely a deeper conversation here

2024 has been one of the best years in gaming, ever. If gamers think games are stale right now then truly nothing will ever please them.

Yes, diligence is a key factor but it’s not on the top of the list.

We are past the stage where simply “streaming at a regular schedule” will get you anywhere because there is no organic algorithm that will help you.

If you aren’t saying or doing anything that resonates, nobody will care.

I still love Prometheus, despite it’s flaws. It deviated the most from the “conventional” formula and actually tried to do some in depth worldbuilding.

I couldn’t latch on to Romulus because once my brain knew it was the same formula, everthing else was pointless to watch.
