Nebraska preserves the largest camels that ever lived! 🐪 These Gigantocamelus died in a massive herd 3.5 million years ago.

The Lisco Camel Quarry, late 1930's.
A glimpse of history for #FossilFriday.

Nothing like finding a fossil microsite!

Chris from the San Diego Natural History Museum and I worked in the classic White River Badlands this weekend. So productive!

Anklebones are important for games and divination in Kyrgyz and central Asian culture.

With four different positions they can land in they make excellent natural dice - and as an anatomist they are also have great biomechanical and taxonomic information. Roll them bones!

Here in Kyrgyzstan as a paleontologist, but seeing a petroglyph by your fieldsite will make your day.

There is such a thing as underselling a story. You won't want to miss this one.

I saw Dr. Robson's talk on the subject of that particular bear skeleton and, well, I think you'll be entertained.

The horrifying humerus of the giant short-faced bear for #FossilFriday.

This specimen from Nebraska makes a large adult black bear humerus look miniscule.

Not to be tangled with.

Teleoceras, a "barrel-bellied" rhino from the Miocene. Commonly known from the great plains to Florida, the Nebraska collections are particularly important. This is the rhino from the spectacular Ashfall site which preserves a whole herd. #FossilFriday @unsmmorrillhall.bsky.social

Having a sloooow #FossilFriday?

Liven it up with a Giant Sloth!

Seen @tarpits.org, Harlan’s Ground Sloths were the most common in that area of Ice Age California, but many species lived in the Americas and the Caribbean.

Swimming mount of a mosasaur hanging above the entrance greets visitors to the @kunhm.bsky.social.

Mosasaurs like this one swam the ancient seas of Kansas, Nebraska, and the plains states during the time of the dinosaurs, when North America was split by a massive seaway.
