I’ve been writing professionally for a decade.

I’ve spent the last two doing my best as a creative to embrace #AI.

The best use case for my work so far has been in AI-assisted research.

AI can also be a sensemaking and taste making tool.

I published an essay about it.
My first ever post on @bsky.app

Am I doing this right?

Anyway, I published an essay on Sunday.
I asked AI to organize my thoughts. Here's what happened.

Where was this outrage at the Minneapolis school shooting a couple of weeks ago?

Or have we just gotten used to those?

I thought guns were good?

The cognitive dissonance is fucking astounding.

Happy New Year to all of you wonderful, creative humans out there. The world is strange lately, let’s make cool shit as an act of resistance. ✌🏻

Any creative that actually works with AI isn’t the least bit worried that it will take their job. The fear mongering usually comes from those who don’t take the time to understand. AI still needs humans. Creativity, your unique POV, your personal taste, these are the inflection points.

“I have too many books”
-judgemental
-boring
-implies impulse-control issues

“The books... they have me.”
- mysterious
- occult
- implies you are at the mercy of a library of books that have gained sentience and are holding you hostage

ChatGPT's new image analysis feature is insane.

I loaded a random image of an air purifier and asked it to create an owner's manual for me.

🤯 Single-shot prompt.

wow.

Got my girlfriend a cheese advent calendar and the highlight of my day is watching her pry it open like some kind of animal enrichment puzzle.

"Hobo Nickel" is the name for American five-cent coins that were hand-engraved by homeless people during the Great Depression of 1930s.

A homeless man used these engravings to increase the value of an ordinary coin, creating small works of art that they could exchange for food or other services.

I’ve reached the point in the holidays where cheesecake with every meal has lost its appeal. The bloom is off the rose.

Finally, we don’t have to jump through hoops to share things on social media. Imagine that.
We want Bluesky to be a great home for journalists, publishers, and creators. Unlike other platforms, we don't de-promote your links. Post all the links you want — Bluesky is a lobby to the open web.
Traffic from Bluesky's @bsky.app to @theguardian.com is already 2x that of Threads

In its first week on the platform & with 300k followers, Bluesky traffic from @theguardian.com posts is already higher than it was from TwX in any week in 2024, where the account had 10.8m followers, but🧵

About halfway through “Some Strange Music Draws Me In” by Griffin Hansbury.

So far, I think it’s both deeply poetic and eye opening. It explores the coming of age of a trans youth in a nowhere town of the mid 80’s.

I can’t put it down.

How do people build audiences around their specific brand of weird?

How do they find their tribe that’s says “yes, you, give me more”.

Here’s a sneak peak of the creators I’ll be showcasing in my next essay:

Writers out there, what’s the very first part of your writing process?

I find that I have to consume tons before I’m ready to write.

Then I usually start by scrawling in notebooks.

The best gets transferred to a Google Doc to frame up a rough outline.

Then I write.
