I've had a theory the Whispers in particular would have gone over a lot better if they looked like small WEAPONS. Would they still be an inherently strange and off putting choice? Yes. But WEAPON Whispers would have a design through-line that makes makes for a much easier suspension of disbelief!

I was thinking about giving FF16 another shot recently and stumbled upon a community thread criticizing the game's combat. People started claiming the real reason OP found the combat boring isn't because it's under cooked, but because OP sucks too much at the game for it to be interesting.

The first thing I did upon getting an oled was play 2 hours of final fantasy xiii. 10\10 would get my eyeballs painfully blinded by light again.

A scene from an early build of the game involed a minor. That minor doesn't exist in the final game. The fact that Valve refused to examine the game as it currently exists is unacceptable incompetence. It's like white saviorism but for game mechanics. "Finally a (western) game that solves the biggest problem with jrpgs!" Meanwhile some untranslated ps1 game has almost certainly done the same exact thing like 30 years ago.

KH2's way is kind of awesome, they basically swapped a basic plot synopsis for intrigue. Even the recappy parts are diagetic.

I swear the whole KH series is some of the most replayable jrpgs ever. I saw some BBS Mirage Arena gameplay recently and was completely cought off guard by bosses I've never seen before. Now I'm trying to convince myself not to invest another hundred hours into that game just to clear the Arena!
