The only production that was NOT weird? Aladdin Jr., the last one. But still, they had to mess it up by cutting out Why Me? because the kid as Jafar in that scene (each role was split into multiples) refused to sing it.

Like this boy, I was in illegal/weird productions as part of this special education PTA group. The most illegal was Shrek, which literally took the script of the film and we performed it. We also did a Charlotte’s Web play that took the script of the 2006 film adaptation.

Either they straight up took the script from the film and made their own version, or made a bizarre mashup of the MTI musical and the movie, as described in this TikTok with a similar case with Jungle Book Kids being extended:

At least Gabby’s Dollhouse’s movie used a meme song that is kinda timeless (The Gummi Bear song, as evidenced by all of those LOOK FOR THE GUMMI BEAR ALBUM memes being relevant years later, and the song being popular with kids).

One happens as a verbal reference when the police officer is insulting Nick, and one where the song is used as a meme of the first inciting incident where mice/hamsters laugh at the car crash during the first chase on a TV show.
