TBH this is the unspoken model we seem to be working towards. Maybe i'm an anomaly as a hums person in STEM dept. but I've explicitly heard people say "unfunded research doesn't count" "prioritise research grants not unfunded research" & ofc the quality of research is judged by the size of the grant
Ok, you can move to a fully-funded model where if you don't have external cash, you don't do any research. Or you can just hope ppl do research in their spare time (if there is any). But you're endangering the research base if you take away most time. A key dilemma. (2/2) www.gov.uk/government/s...
