If LK99 can be replicated, it is an extraordinary leap into the future for humanity. Much of what is considered science fiction is gated behind this technology. The researchers who developed it are guaranteed the Nobel Prize, and they will receive all the funding they could ever ask for.

Their results have yet to be replicated physically, though, and until they are, it is not yet safe to say that LK-99 is a room temperature and standard pressure superconductor.
Once they are, however, expect the scientists who developed it to enter into the annals of history alongside Einstein.

Now, they're nearing final publication on their paper, the synthesis is apparently very finicky, but simulations from multiple groups seem to confirm that this class of materials has the potential to form room temperature superconductors, and seem to confirm that the proposed mechanism is viable

What happened in 1999 was essentially the start of a very long research process which is only just now starting to bear fruit. Its class of materials was being researched by a mentor of the two scientists it's named for, and in his will in 2017 he asked them to resume research, and they got funding.
