This is not just for America. This is for every non-profit, school and church; every helping profession, marriage and business, large or small. In that way, Dr. King’s challenge to integrity is for all of us: individuals and institutions alike. (4/5)

He wanted America to live up to the aspirational ideals that were penned in ink, ideals like “all men are created equal.” In this way, he unashamedly called America to a kind of integrity that had been painfully tainted.

And he’d call for that today.

But he said more than what we usually quote. To honor Dr. King is to commit ourselves to the knowledge of the fullness of his words and not just his palatable parts. In that same speech, he also said,

“All we say to America is, ‘Be true to what you said on paper.’” (2/5)
