Emotionally complicated pieces offering an evolutionary link between older self-portrait attempts (driven by how I felt I had to present) and the shark-therian portraits true to my self-image. Note the growing fish-person vibes in later versions.

This time the only changes are to the background, which is darkened to avoid washing out the demoness, and to her skin color, a much deeper, darker, more saturated blue with a distinct luminescence where the light strikes it. Funnily enough, this works better with the bright blues and silvers of her cheek, brow, and nasal ornament scales--the contrast gives her face as a whole a stronger sense of shape and a better distance-read, as though it should've been this way from the beginning.

Azure Queen (2020). Originally intended to be a self-insert, but aside from the outfit, so much of this design was driven by what I assumed others desired of me, rather than what I truly desired for myself, that I don't see myself when I look at it. Might be worth making her her own thing!
A towering demoness of snow-white skin, her arms bulging with massive power-lifter muscles and spanned wide to grip an enormous odachi behind her back. It's an elaborate thing in full tachi koshirae, with deep blue silk wrap on both its grip and the scabbard near the silvery mouthpiece. Most of the scabbard is a vivid blue in shiny lacquer, or perhaps an especially reflective metal. It has a thick black-metal guard trimmed in silver, a neon-blue diamondback rattlesnake manifesting from its silhouette--a manifestation of the sword-soul. The end-cap of the scabbard is a stylized viper motif. The demoness wears a gown of alternating lapis blue and black paneling, often divided by silver trim. Two mirror-polished sabatons poke from beneath the hem. Her long, thick tail curves around to her front, its tip a kukri blade. Two horns like recurving blades curve down around her head, a bronze circlet fused into her forehead and extending down her nose. Dramatic shadows, physically impossible in this lighting, cover one side of her face, making it appear deep dark blue. In this darkness, the sunny grin between her full black lips instead becomes a row of a glimmering metallic fangs, and in contrast to the lush blue and black viper slit of the eye in the sunlight, this eye's slit glows nova bright in a blue pit, with a corona of white light outlining its blue iris. A sash of icy blue, trimmed in white patterns evoking winter winds, wraps her waist, and on her right hip hangs what looks to be some sort of metallic carrying case for a single book. The front of her gown exposes generous cleavage, though it's modest compared to the enormous biceps on either side. Scales in icy blue dust her collarbone, with one shaped like a little stylized heart tucking its tip right in to the crevice of her breasts. A book-shaped pendant in silver and copper hangs into that tender valley.

Its grip features purple silk wrapping over white rayskin, with a tachi-style kashira and backstrap in gold which, peculiarly, only cover the lower two thirds of the grip, with a golden spacer-band separating them from the silk under the guard. The guard is a golden disk with an ornament looking like some sort of blossom aligned to the blade's edge.

She stretches forward, body thrown so far into her lunge that her posture as much resembles a beast hunching before the leap as it does a trained warrior.

Asche Schwarzstab (2021 & 2024). Asche began as a self-insert in a depressing little cyber-noir story, herself simply called "Black Dress". By now she's a fantasy-German witch in a folkloric near-modern setting. Recent edits fixed my tensions with her '21 version.

Blue-tinted trails in the smoke behind her faintly outline a figure with horns and a spaded tail, who smiles slightly over the vampiress's shoulder.

Kotoe (2019). Star pupil of the Severant Breath Kenjutsu School. Her odachi is named The Mourning Whisper, said to cut so cleanly that the only sound its victims hear is their own last breath. Kotoe feels she belongs nowhere, and so has nothing to lose by killing.

A tall heavily-tanned Japanese woman, her forearms densely muscular, with her black hair tied back in a thick bun. She has elegantly severe, somewhat gaunt features and a vicious scar traveling up the left of her jaw through her cheek, exposing teeth and gums before passing up the cheekbone and finally ending in her hairline. She wears a purple surcoat trimmed with gold over a black gi, and has begun to unsheathe a large extremely-curved sword in a purple scabbard with ornate fittings. Fire blasts from the mouth of the scabbard.

Sevrakai (2019). A bloodthirsty maniac but *also* a massive bleeding heart. Narrowly loses out on the "first true self-insert" crown to Ermina by virtue of not having a bubbly impulsive side, and not having a journey of sexual awakening as central to her character.

Sevrakai (2019). A superficially-humanoid swordswoman with snow white skin, who looms over the viewer as she draws a huge Kriegsmesser-style greatsword. Its guard is a broad gold crossguard with sharpened ends, bolstered bya thick disc on either side filled with some sort of design: an outer ring of golden four-point stars, a middle ring of blue, an inner of purple, and in the center a blood-red sphere with a sliver of something white inside it. The grip and pommel look to be either mild steel or silver, etched with complex designs that are difficult to read due to their fine detail and distance from the viewer. Her hair is a wild main of inky black streaming around her into streaks of sunset fire, her face a sculpted diamond, with rosebud lips painted purple and stretched in a sadistic grin. Each eye is a black pit centered by a sunburst of purple plasma, dancing with eager lightning. She wears a surcoat with elbow-length sleeves, its color a lustrous ultramarine blue trimmed lavishly with silver. The trim forms designs that range from a mix of blossoming and dead branches at the lower hem, to a stylized diagram running from knees to hips which difficult to read due to the angle and her long stance, but seems to depict gun turrets of strange form on some sort of platform on the right hip, and some sort of eerie star with tentecular energies on the left. This design is separated from the lower hem by thick black bands, the right of which falls directly on the knee of the woman's leading leg. Parallel striping on the shoulders and golden trim in the black-paneled center of the surcoat breaks up the blue. She wears elaborate sabatons with faceted fronts, and bracers of similar make. She seems to be wearing some sort of breastplate under the surcoat, but it's hard to see clearly from this angle.

Gertrude von Brundingen (2019)! 7 1/2 foot tall knight lady I dreamed up for my old mythic fantasy setting, Canno. I never did figure out what to do with this redoubtable fortress of a woman as far as story involvement, but I just think she's neat!

A gigantic olive-skinned woman drawn in black and white. Her attire is patterned on that of a Fechtschule fencer from the German Renaissance, with knit stockings in pointed shoes and vertically-striped Pluderhosen--baggy pants just below knee-length, with a tight inner hem to keep them from getting in the way. Her shirt-vest sports ruffling in the middle, and patterns of scrollwork forming parallel lines on the arms, as well as black fabric stitched at the shoulders and forearms, as well as embellishment at the the hips. Black hair in a tight ponytail, her face is a strong oval in full profile, with a powerful hawk nose and a tattoo that oddly resembles a circuitboard under her right eye. She wears thick black eyeliner and lipstick, with the open collar of her shirt exposing the tightly-corded muscles of her neck. She stretches one brawny arm to its fullest length to balance a Zweihander even taller than she is.
