My mom is a narcissist who is pretty envious of me in a number of ways. And grown up has been me being happy and her finding a way to be a killjoy, but disguising it as “ I’m just being a mom and I care about you”. I don’t think narcissist can really care or love in that way.

It’s a weird thing because in the past and sometimes currently it does happen, but it is because of one person, being my mom, and how that shaped that feeling, even when I am in environments outside of her or not next to her.
