Well done Emily.

The gold cartridge too. You knew you were playing something different. Nothing has ever recaptured the same sense of wonder for me.

FWIW I find MA drivers much saner and easier to deal with than NH drivers.

I only played odyssey and 2600 before that. The difference in graphics and depth of gameplay was off the charts. Zelda had beautiful graphics, exploration (burning random bushes to find things), and a beautiful open world. I still remember the sense of wonder playing it for the first time.

I love that weather so much. Driving through the curtain of snow to get somewhere warm and cozy to watch the snow out the window

Also, most modern European TVs will accept NTSC if they have component but that depends on your TV. There are ways around that too (RGB mods, scalers).

A quick scan shows that the bricks are 100(Japan/us)-240(europe) so as long as you have a European plug adapter and a properly rated brick you should be fine.

You can! The n64 takes dc power so all the work is done by the power brick to convert the wall socket to something the console can handle.

What I genuinely like about durarara is the sympathetic and nuanced treatment of the immigrant characters. Celty, and Simon in particular. Verona is less developed.
December 29, 2025 at 10:31 AM
This, durarara is more a surreal mediation on what it means to be Japanese post Internet and multicultural Tokyo.

Durarara was originally a light novel series. While it's problematic in places, I love its vision of an integrated Japan.

I normally play into it and say something like "I'm all arms and legs" or do something like palm the ceiling with both hands. Good for a sugoi or two.

This is it. LLMs can be emancipatory but not in ways that allow a manager or a new hire to do an expert's work. The goal was to be a new jacquard loom, they got something that made experts harder to replace.
December 27, 2025 at 11:08 PM
... easy part, it's solving the right problems, debugging and knowing how to present the information upwards in a way that steers organizations that's the true value. LLMs are terrible at both.

This is a much more limited and qualified sets claims and goals than the hype. The stated goal of the agentic AI was to taylorize (i.e., turn workers in replaceable widgets) knowledge work. This is turning into the tech version of the great leap forward, the production of knowledge is the ...

I love ps1. Still have warm fuzzies from playing it as a kid.

I like learning how the early consoles were made and their technology. I don't get the same sense of wonder from playing the games as I do from learning about them.
