If you’d asked me to imagine such a center 20 years ago, I would have imagined a serious enterprise tied to the thoughts of people like George Will and William F. Buckley. Today, I fear it would be a conspiracy factory and social media trolling center.

It is impossible to overstate the arrogance and ignorance that it wrapped up in the President’s post.

Trump doesn’t care. It’s all about the accumulation of power for Trump. But the result wil be a diminished USA and a more powerful China and Russia.

None of this is good for the country. As we proceed down this path, we’ll end up with fewer allies, a more unstable and dangerous international order, a divided military, and an exploding deficit. We’ll lose considerable expertise, and our leadership in medicine, science, and clean energy.

Trump wants to bolster his support among Tech Bros and Citizen’s United donors, so he’s seeking 4.5 trillion in tax cut extensions and expansions, primarily for benefit of the rich. He hopes to fool the public at large (again) by buying them off with small checks of alleged DOGE savings.

Trump resents the resistance he experienced from the DOJ, scientists, and civil servants, to his unilateral and sometimes unlawful proposed actions during in his first term. So in his second term he fires the nation’s best and brightest employees claiming that he is eliminating fraud and efficiency

Trump feels the military command didn’t adequately support his flirtation with unlawful orders during his first term, so he fires senior personnel and threatens to cut 40 percent from the defense budget in an attempt to bring it to heel.

Trump hates Zelensky because his first impeachment arose from his unsuccessful effort to blackmail Zelensky. So he tells Ukraine - give me the rights to 50 percent of your mineral rights. If you say no, I’ll call you a dictator and hold peace talks with Putin without you.

But these these events are part of a larger crisis. Gerrymandering has been exploited to allow a minority to capture control of state government.

Despite a free and fair election, and two recounts, the effort to steal the election result from Associate Justice Riggs continues. In isolation, these events are a crisis in and of themselves.
