Much to my chagrin to my anarchist comrades, I don't think people can regulate themselves by nature alone, they need structures to aid them.

Those elements do need to be purged. And they are elements that transcend factions. But the problem is we can't even begin talking about those problems because of how polarized the Organization is. Every debate becomes a political discussion, every single one is a ploy to get rid of opposition.

It's a line as well that just imo encourages people to not take accountability for their cantankerousness, toxicity, and bad faith out of a sense of "Unity".

There are genuinely toxic and unhealthy elements in DSA that need to be excised. Obstructionist, Toxic, Malicious, egotistical, racist, etc.

I also don't think you can resolve factional discussions by having a weird kind of broad "Gentleman's agreement" to just "be unified in spirit", that's just not how factionalism works. Inevitably one will win out in the end and another will say it's one insult too far. and that line is dynamic.

And to be honest *That's fine*, the solution then isn't to have debates, but to discuss what brought each party to those conclusions, but the Forums and Discord do not encourage that.

And frankly the internal debates and factional disputes are cantankerous and utterly toxic.

like it's not really possible to have meaningful discussions within an online medium where every single post is... just a debate. and these debates aren't constructive because no one is looking for a solution, they have already decided on the solution and decided theirs is right.
