Appliance Standards Awareness Project
@asapstandards.bsky.social
ASAP advocates for appliance, equipment, and lighting standards that cut planet-warming emissions and other air pollution, save water, and reduce economic and environmental burdens for low- and moderate-income households.
A decision today by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit protects furnace standards set to reduce heating costs for many households-- saving households replacing an inefficient furnace with a new model an average of $350 over the life of the furnace.

"According to its sponsor Rep. Langworthy, H.R. 3699 is an effort to 'ban the bans'- but the bill goes much further than that, eliminating large swathes of commonsense health and safety protections, and threatening fundamental controls on energy prices."

A recent package of proposals from @ENERGY to roll back efficiency standards for numerous products would cost households and businesses nearly *five* times as much as it would save them.

“The costs of rolling these things back dwarf the benefits."

“The House put the interests of one manufacturer & a group of gas utilities ahead of American families today."

“The law [does not permit DOE] to ban the use of any specific fuels in particular products, such as gas instantaneous water heaters. DOE is increasing the required efficiency of newly produced gas instantaneous water heaters that will become available for sale in 2029.”
