Breaking News: Jane Goodall, one of the world’s most revered conservationists, died at 91. Her discoveries in the 1960s about how chimpanzees behaved in the wild broke new ground and represented what was called “one of the Western world’s great scientific achievements.” nyti.ms/42kpGxt

Important read by Sandler & Palmer on #wildanimalwelfare ethics. While I value understanding wild animal welfare, I’m troubled by strands of the movement that carry a colonialist logic—claiming to know what’s “best” for wild animals and intervening on their behalf.

Today would have been my dissertation advisor Tom Lovejoy’s birthday. I am deeply grateful for his wisdom, encouragement, and years of mentorship. He always believed in me, and his support continues to shape my path.

Isabel Allende often writes books about women in tough spots who figure out a way through — a recurring theme that’s not far off from her own story. She recently discussed her career, grief and more. Read, listen or watch “The Interview.” nyti.ms/4m6mQED
