It is a scandal that the violence in schools is not reported. A friend teaches science and is regularly sworn at and attacked. Nothing is done about this and understandably she is thinking of leaving the profession. It is something that needs tackling, otherwise we won't have any teachers left.

Just finished reading this. It was, as always with Jonathan Coe, absolutely brilliant. Funny, moving, politically committed as well as being a page turner. I have read all of his books and whilst What a Carve Up will have a special place in my heart this came very close to being my favourite.
