I had to do a presentation of fascism in university, and the one thing I remember clearly is how much overlap there is between right-wing ideology and bullies. It's basically a circle.

It's people who peaked in school and are mad it doesn't count for anything anymore.

Still, I feel like sharing the wealth would make for a more interesting show, rather than trying to prove its own legitimacy while everyone waits for trailers.

I mean, there's some other glaring flaws in the award in other ways, like the Sonic 3 snub, or the fact that only one of the nominated fighting games even came out this year. All the others are early access, collections of old games, or both in the case of Mortal Kombat.

It just feels like it makes more sense to separate them. Say, yeah, you weren't on the level of GOTY contenders, but you can still win your genre categories.

It's not like people are going to just foget E33 is absolutely phenomenal because it won like 7 awards instead of 12.

Technical stuff, I get. A GOTY contender might not necessarily have the best art direction but make up for it in other ways.

But it can't win an award for being the best game while also not being the best game of its genre. It's just a spoiler.

I know why it's like this, the big movie awards shows do it this way, and you can hype up your show by lining up a single game for a big sweep, but I feel like it'd be more fun to highlight a wider variety of games.

Seriously, there are like 2 genre awards that don't have a GOTY contender in them.
