Forester. Dismal commentator, worse parent.
Oh wow, 'calling it out'.

Fantastic stuff.

Defence budget to 5%? Thinking about conscription? Significant increase in the nuclear stockpile?

Or just calling it out, in that tried and tested way that brings actual results, rather than just 'likes' from idiots, every time...?
January 5, 2026 at 7:59 PM
Absolutely agree: problem is it needs defence spending at 5%+, starting next week and for the next decade - I *want* to believe that the left, of which I am a part, understands that, but I'm afraid I have zero confidence they'll stick to it when the first hard decision comes along.

I used to believe in it, I have the scars, and burns, to show it

But I believe it no longer exists, and that pretending it does is like long deposed monarchies writing proclamations & issuing titles from shabby hotels in Bayswater, pretending they are the govts of countries that no longer exist.

International law is dead, and has been for some time.

Wailing about it is the sign of someone who hasn't dusted themselves off and adjusted themselves - and their defence budgets - to the new reality.

It's about power, that's all there is now.

As ever with Starmer, the result is about Process, not effect.

If X complies with Y process, then they are clean, no matter what the effect is - it's one of the reasons Starmer is such a poor politician, whatever his other qualities.

As the world knows - a friend in need is a friend you could well do without.

A friend in need because he's been caught noncing is *very much* a friend you can well do without.

You'd have thought a politician would have been well versed in the ruthless amputation of dead weight, but apparently not.

And in unrelated news - as the eyebrow of cynicism meets the hairline of disbelief, it's time to....

The real crux for the RN is the future viability of Carrier Strike:

With less that 100 F-35B is CS realistic?

Given the US *unreliability* is F-35 a safe platform for the next 40 years?

With a fit of Meteor, Spear Cap 3 and Paveway IV, is CS capable of fighting anyone other than Jersey?

Is there a good *military* reason why FCAS and GCAP don't merge into a single program that might actually produce something useful for a price that allows it to be bought in numbers, or is it just about prestige/work share?

Would the GCAP countries actually want the French and Germans in the tent?

You really do have to question the political antennae - or even reading comprehension - of anyone in Europe who is surprised by this stuff.

This is simply what these people have been saying, publicly, for *years*, written on headed paper.

As a revelation, it's right up there with sunrise.

Blair looks like he died about 6 weeks ago in that photo.

I *want* to say that the astute politician in Blair would have been distancing himself from this shit show, and even arranged his 'dropping', but he seems to have become a kind of messianic, David Icke type figure with better teeth....

Brexit 2.0

Journalist clutching pearls that Farage is a racist, while his voters say 'i mean, duh - feature, not a glitch...'

No reform voter is going to not vote reform because they discover Farage is a racist who says horrible things - they vote for him *because* he's a racist etc...

Have they worked to reduce the bottleneck of there only being 150 chassis that can be upgraded to Ch3 standard - you know, like if there was a major European land war on the cards, and a govt decided it wanted more that 150 tanks?

No, thought not....

It's a bit like a joke - if you have to explain your briefing or doctrine, it's not a very good briefing or doctrine.

Wank Speak is the defensive Fur Coat to cover the intellectual No Knickers.

A specific, and a general:

Wide Wet Gap. You're going to have to say 'its a river/lake/ocean' at some point, so why not at the start?

Any word or phrase that a 20yo L/Bdr, with a D grade GCSE in English and 6 hours of sleep in the last week says 'what the fuck does that mean?' after hearing.

Half of Europe's carriers, half of Europe's nukes - and one of the most solid on Russia - this kind of suggests that the EU is (mostly) still in a legalistic mind rather than a political one. Shades of COVID...

Good job the Army/MOD isn't the kind of dog shit org that ignores its own ATDU, bins the CO, then fudges new results to claim that a well established problem had been magically cured - I mean, that might suggest it was some kind of fucking clown show you wouldn't put in charge of a bag of hair...

Unfortunately, it *would* be tolerated.

Genuinely puzzled as to what you think anyone would do about Ru lobbing ballistic & cruise missiles into Paris or London..?

TLAM into Moscow? Royal Navy to St Petersburg? 2 dozen Typhoon to Smolensk?
November 19, 2025 at 3:07 PM
Seems a bit silly - if Ru invaded an EU member state, and another EU MS was neutral on the issue, would any other MS *want* their people & equipment travelling through, and being vulnerable in, that 'neutral' MS?

if they actually are neutral, having belligerent forces transit ends that neutrality.
