the photography is horrible unfortunately BUT this absolutely Massive arrangement by the 45th generation ikenobo headmaster stopped me in my tracks. i still don't understand how any vessel was capable of supporting this. hauntingly beautiful

i've always thought ikebana was an incredible discipline/art form but after my debacle w the crabapple branch last night it really renewed my awe + appreciation for the extreme balancing act (both physical and aesthetic) that must be undertaken to render these arrangements

so autumnal i love them

ok i feel like it doesn't actually look that big in pictures but it was so huge that i couldn't even get it to stand up in a vase without tipping over so i had to split it into two (very difficult when all ur working with is a pair of regular scissors...)

just exerted an insane amount of energy to transport this giant crabapple branch home...
