Yes, I should gave said ‘some top end companies’ - and you are definitely right with the affordability!

I think that the top end companies have the means to innovate to that direction, too. For example, the current crop of Zeiss confocal microscopes combine quite amazing digital and computational capabilities with the traditionally excellent optics.

Not caught one myself ever, but looks to me more promising for crocicapitella from that angle.
