... Cats are known to see spirits and entities, making them a great ally to work with the spirit realm. They have long been associated with witches and during the witch trials, were killed along with the accused.

The Bat is associated with death and communication. Witches were often the first to be blamed in times of sickness and plague. Bats being seen as flying rats, were thought to also be carrying disease and in extension carrying messages between witches and the Devil.
