The flaws (imo) I could pick out are the way it tries to read itself as a sorta feminist-leaning book, confining men to this specific sort of evil or socialization that they could Not redeem themselves from, because ngl it borders on being a bit too radfem but idk

When radfems talk about men THEY DO NOT MEAN MEN. They mean Trans women. Radfems cannot care any less about men, to them cis men have a free pass to do literally anything because they are just expected to have that sort of behavior

So what is it to you if people want to explore his possessiveness and jealousy while under the influence of dragonsickness/goldsickness?? The need to be morally correct has them unknowingly reiterating narratives of being othered and the eradication of it by mere domination

Like i am especially increasingly annoyed/concerned by this whole trend wherein of thorin being under dragonsickness/goldsickness and the fandom's approach towards that is to somehow dominate his irrationality or depraved behavior to whip him into normalcy somehow?? as what the usual narrative goes

We could argue about the feminist aspect of this issue, i guess, but people still do not fucking get it that orientalism has been used to justify the killing and abuse Arabs and Muslims, so idk maybe the whole point is no matter how evil something or someone is, they still don't deserve to die

Like yes we respect the Mamdanis because they appeal to our moral egos and don't worry guys they won't implement the shariah law here they're not Like That. As if Muslims who practice their religion in a different way deserves to be othered just bcs they don't appeal to the moral senses of the West

These people refuse to look at the implication of their statements that they will only recognize a Muslim person worthy of their attention when said Muslim people act the way the West expects them to. They refuse to acknowledge the covert othering they're doing

I know edward said's orientalism doesn't really point outright to its readers how orientalism presents itself in the world, but people not seeing how orientalist it is for american leftists to say that they shouldn't be worried that zohran is going to implement sharia law is beyond me
