What I think is interesting is that this attempted fraud of a child failed.

I frequently see examples of successful fraud perpetrated against adults.

Which goes to the question:

Should we look to make the internet safer, and our population more resilient beyond just children?

What about a tax of $200 / Tonne of emissions for fossil fuel exports?
November 17, 2025 at 5:12 AM
2.5 Billion / 24 is indeed roughly 2.4e9/24, which is: 100 Million.

0.3 watt hours * 100 million is 30 Megawatt hours.

You are ignoring training.

Many economists claim land taxes are significantly incident on landowners, reducing land values.

So rather than higher property taxes making Victoria a worse place for business, they might make it a place where land is cheaper than it would otherwise be.

Who is right, those economists, or the BCA?

Our local pool (Lane Cove) currently has a gas boiler that approaching end of life.

The council say electricity is cheaper in the long run, but they don't have the cash to buy one.

What is the way to get this to happen?

I would (hypothetically it has never happened) horrify my date by not adding salt to the water.

There needs to be a coalition to govern.

A coalition break up in opposition is a good thing.

The Liberals need to identify what young people who voted Labor and teal want, and come up with policies to deliver, and win back those voters.

If a politician is asked what percentage of the atmosphere is CO2, the correct answer is: “Google it mate”.

One way for people to express their views on energy sources that won’t destroy our environment is by voting.
October 30, 2025 at 7:29 PM
Pretty much everything has an environmental impact, and most things we decide to do have some non environmental impact, for example profits, housing, food, power, minerals, etc.

How does an independent EPA assess the value of the non environmental impacts?

There was a discussion of the future of the airline REx today.

Half of the destinations it flies to it is the only carrier.

The idea we need a profit oriented organisations in markets where there is no competition makes no sense.

I agree bases make the US more interested in our "regime".

The whole point of US bases in Australia is complicity.

A hypothetical neighbour considering threatening Australia, would be aware of our complicity in US actions.
October 22, 2025 at 3:08 AM
I agree that Australian governments have an history of enthusiasm for joining the USA in misguided military adventures.

Can you further into explaining the rest of your comment.
October 21, 2025 at 6:53 PM
Praising Trump seems pretty low cost to me.

US bases provide a credible signal that the USA has in interest in Australia's security.

As a Green voter all these things seem reasonable to do.

> it will apply to fewer people

Maybe part of it. Part, the low income super offset, applies to many more people.

It was 15% of contributions for those earning up to $37,000 a year, to a maximum of $500.

The income threshold is increase to $45,000 a year, and the maximum to $810.

> Labor's proposal was to double the earnings tax for earnings above $3 million in any individual's fund

Nope. Not earnings above $3M. Income on component of balances over $3M.
October 13, 2025 at 5:27 AM
Balances in super have been typically taxed once, at 15%.

Income deposited directly into super is taxed once, at the concessional rate of 15%, typically lower than income not contributed.

Super balance increases from income inside the fund is also taxed once, at 15%, lower than other income.
October 13, 2025 at 5:26 AM
Poorly written article:

> In most cases, super is taxed twice –15 per cent on money that goes into the fund (contributions tax) and another 15 per cent on money earned within the fund, such as returns from investment (earnings tax).

Or super for 20 year old's is taxed 40 times, once every year?

I recently passed a seemingly irrelevant software algorithms exam which was a precondition / requirement for being given access to AI coding tools at an australian financial firm.

2,000+ Australian tech staff, and 3,000+ staff in India & Vietnam had completed it.

They are hiring offshore big time.

$10B to build them.

$6M worth of missiles to destroy them.

The point with both private education and health is to properly fund the public system, including free physio, dental care, and mental care, so the private system is superfluous.

It is true that you can’t fix this overnight.

That is why you start as soon as possible.
July 30, 2025 at 8:38 PM
Gas is a fossil fuel.

The long term solution on gas is to invest in the technologies and assets to close it down.

The short term solution is to tax it as much as possible.

The tax must be high enough to create the perception of sovereign risk, the risk that sovereigns act to protect the climate.
