Just a pile of secondhand esoteric books and some podcasts under a trenchcoat.
John Huston, Ray Bradbury, Orson Welles, Gregory Peck... I think I'm talking myself into an imminent rewatch too

Instantly reminded of Orson Welles in the movie

I recently heard Duncan Barford describe The Rime of the Ancient Mariner as an occult work and so I'm now wondering if everything I read as a 17 year old was secretly esoteric (which would explain the subsequent course of my life) or just the texts with people at sea?

Thanks Rick, I enjoyed this. Kate's theory that poltergeists were fairies made me think of the Wildnisgeist concept where we see polt activity in forests associated with Bigfoot. Because if Bigfoot is just a big hairy fairy, and poltergeists are just fairy then naturally we'd see similar activity...

Big fan of DK. My partner worked for them a while back and only has good things to say. And as such I look forward to their forthcoming Illustrated Cambridge Book of Magic.

What seems obvious (to me at least) is that lots of people are using the K word to describe their various differing experiences and as no one wants to learn Sanskrit and trudge through medieval texts from India to decide who's correct, I'm happy to let people self define here.

And good job - Jeremy isn't an easy interview! As you noted a lot of the issues are down to language - and I think the key term is 'Kundalini'. Jeremy thinks he had a kundalini experience, Seriah does too. But bc their experiences differ Jeremy thinks Seriah didn't.

A timely show for me both because my podcast app told me that my Paratopia relisten project caused Our Undoing to be my top listen this year (which takes some doing) but also because I've recently listened to a bunch of paranormal experiences that have similarities with awakening/enlightenment ones.

Haven't read his paper on it yet but Andrew Collins seemed to be suggesting it was an intelligent plasma based life form too. I like how people are treating it as a Rorschach test and projecting their favourite theories onto what it might be. Makes me feel bad that I think it's probably just a rock.

Yes! I'm already envisioning the alternate Annabelle movie pitch that results from you doing that: James Wan's Animal Comes Home.
