The more I scale up a #drawing, the harder it is to keep my proportions correct. I like the challenge it reminds me of all the important things of drawing. I have yet to accomplish a solid one at a large scale,in my view. For today, it's just a small drawing to remind myself I can #draw. #portrait

For years, I have been painting a lot of portraits in open studio, with limited time. It has mostly been a grind of practice getting better and understanding the mediums. Only now am I starting to think more of my intentions with the piece. This comes from confidence in skill. #art #painting 4hrs

Why does applying resin to paintings feel like defusing a time bomb. Any speck of dust, any divet or flaw just trigger me. I have all the patience in the world for drawing and painting. When it comes to applying a finish on top, my patience is gone. It becomes rushed and uncaring. Personality flaw.

Progress of a live portrait. This is as far as this one goes. The lighting was a little dark because of the gloomy day, but overall, I think I managed to get her likeness. #process #portrait #oilpsinting #chicagoartist #mexicanartist #morninggrind

This week, I have been on #flower #painting #grind. These will get a nice resin finish. I plan on making 20/30 for an upcoming holiday market. If I make good progress, I will make bigger ones.

"Goated" in acrylic. This is a more playful painting than I usually do. I'm not really into the stars and zodiac symbols, but I did own a goat when I was 3 years old. Ever since, rams goats and any animal with horns really call to me. #painting #mexicanartist #chicagoartist #acrylic #goated #art

Painted on an aluminum brush metal plate. Something about capturing a live model's likeness is very satisfying.

Here's my closest attempt to a finished painting from a live model. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. The next one,I will push further. #oil #painting #portrait #chicagoartist #hair

In contrast to when I'm #drawing with pencil, #painting brings me a bit of unease. There are many things to keep in mind and in harmony. The end can be satisfying. It always reveals you lack something, but it doesn't show you exactly what it is. Just hope the next painting does. #art #oils #WIP

Nothing else gives me a sense of calm like the one I get making a pencil portrait. #draw #pencil ##blackandwhite
