I pair characters with a song that reflects their vibe, and I chose one that reflects the depth of mummy issues 🙂‍↕️

Freudian by Daniel Caesar really encapsulates and reflects Mateo's deep, aching sense of longing - for stability, for family, for absolution for his guilt as it relates to the passing of his sister, father and particularly his mother. It would've been around two years since the death of his mother and sister by the time he meets Sean and Daniel and is introduced into the story, so their loss would be very present in Mateo's inner world. Will he show it? Fuck no. Ynez definitely wishes he would, but Mateo has his own journey of emotional processing over the course of Para Siempre, aided by the presence of the Diaz brothers. They're an accidental catalyst for processing because of the nature of their circumstance and how it parallels Mateo's.
