The “Asian Lady Beetle”, native to Asia, was brought to the US in the 60s by the USDA and accidentally by Japanese freighters. To me, they’re lady bugs in my favorite color that I used to play with as a kid at recess. They remind me of childhood bliss — exploring the outdoors and making messes.

“Crapion” is part of a my series, Hometown Mythologies, which constructs a folkloric vocabulary from memories of growing up in the San Antonio Hill Country. Through this series, I transform family stories into visual myths to give shape to an evolving, personal mythology.
