First time in a long time doing a pet portrait. #WIP while I was waiting for my kid to finish an appointment.

Right now it feels like a very poor likeness, but I'm hoping that improves as I add detail.

A while back my cat came to the back door with a mouse for the first time and we were very much like, "nope, you are not bringing dead things inside"

My dog suddenly got sick and I think I only have days to weeks left with her. I don't have the words for the grief I'm feeling. Just in January she was running and playing on the beach and now she's struggling to stand up and walk around.

I immediately loved drawing with it, and the next day drew this. The lines for the bowl and the water were pre-printed, but I drew every bubble and every pebble at the bottom. This was the first drawing I really loved, without reservation. On February 22, 2024, I got hooked on drawing.

On February 12th I started PHP. Art therapy was huge for me. The 45-minute constraint allowed me to just start, rather than wasting time trying to find the perfect idea and talking myself out of trying.

Three pieces of art: A dragon made by gluing ripped pieces of paper onto another sheet, a "blue marble"-inspired watercolor painting of the earth on a starry background, and a watercolor painting of a tree with silver armor for bark and bloody thorned roots. The dragon started with the prompt: "Draw something you hate". I drew a dollar bill in crayon to represent money and capitalism. We were then asked to rip it up and glue the pieces to a new sheet to make something new. I assembled them into a dragon and titled it, "The Green Dragon of Capitalism" For the tree we were prompted to create a tree with the roots representing our past, the trunk our present, and the branches our future. I painted bloody thorn-covered roots to represent my traumatic past, an armor-clad trunk representing the emotional armor I developed to protect myself, and a fruit-bearing canopy representing hope for a better future.
