Cheaper? They won’t afford it. They’ll lose it. That seems… misplaced.

They shouldn’t have saved the GOP from its cruelty. By getting involved with SNAP, they assumed responsibility for something they didn’t cause and that should be paid out regardless of shutdown. they dropped the healthcare issue. ACA dies
We are on same side of bigger battle but we disagree tactics.
November 11, 2025 at 6:12 PM
Dems made that calculation 40-odd days ago. They shut it down for healthcare. Now it’s about federal workers, whom the admin has been treating terribly since 1/20, and SNAP, which is a wholly owned issue of the President. Dems had public support. Now it’s a mess.

Not sure if you’re replying to me but I don’t think the Republicans will cave on anything, much less the ACA. They hate it. Their voters voted knowing full well they’d try to repeal it.
November 11, 2025 at 5:57 PM
No. But if you allow the GOP to use this weapon once they will use it every time.
And I don’t know that SNAP was the main issue. Seems like NV senators were more bothered by airline and tourism issues, for example.
November 11, 2025 at 5:54 PM
Let the GOP try to answer that. This is their problem. They created it. Not the Dems. We swooped in and made it about us. It’s not. Their leader is abusive. Let them see it and us not be enablers.

Agree agree agree. I’m trying to find some lemonade in the lemons but as time goes on I’m getting more sour.
November 11, 2025 at 5:30 PM
Right!! The Dems have power. MAGA GOP doesn’t have 60 votes. Therefore the Dems have every right - and should — exercise the power we’ve given them. I get that some senators states were being affected by airline disruptions but our healthcare losses will be worse.
November 11, 2025 at 5:28 PM
I watched this. I love LOD but thought he was really reaching last night. This isn’t an episode of West Wing. That world of politics is gone. Dems blew this!! Healthcare matters. We will all suffer. SSI privatization is next. Dems better learn to be like Newsom. FIGHT 100% or get steamrolled.

If they haven’t destroyed or altered them by now. I trust none of them.
November 11, 2025 at 1:26 PM
And Trump is floating 50-year mortgages, which add about 300k onto life of loan over same 30-year mortgage. Gross.
November 11, 2025 at 1:25 PM
I watched. I love LO’D but thought last night that he was reaching big time. He was trying to spin a cave into a win. The Dems did cave. LOD saying the 5 Dems made all GOPers bend to the new deal. Nah. The new deal is weak! SNAP rescue? Pathetic. Dems got almost nothing.
November 11, 2025 at 1:20 PM
There’s very little pushback of GOP guests on the show. It’s maddening.
November 11, 2025 at 1:14 PM
OMG. When will they learn? The whole GOP Congress is run by Trump. Thune could buy them promise rings and it wouldn’t mean a thing.
November 11, 2025 at 12:59 PM
Yeah. And I don’t see the GOP ever giving a darn about it. They’ve vilified the ACA and Medicaid recipients. I truly don’t get the Democrats here. I try but it’s confounding and very upsetting. Next up in GOP destruction tour is Medicare and SSI. And the Dems keep playing nice.
November 11, 2025 at 12:43 PM
And their body parts are washing up on foreign shores.
November 11, 2025 at 6:11 AM
That’s 1 way to view it. Another way was to keep the pressure up re airport delays, bread lines (not too long with that) and bad press until republicans felt it from their own. Even though in minority, dems had power to shut down gov. They shy away. I get it. People hurting. Not easy.
November 11, 2025 at 5:51 AM
What leverage do democrats have now to extend ACA subsidies and restore Medicaid funding, the two main issues for the shutdown?
November 11, 2025 at 5:43 AM
With what leverage? They just saved the republicans from themselves. The Dems had the public on their side. Trump was taking FOOD away from people, airports slowing… now what? I want to believe you’re right but hard to see how.
November 11, 2025 at 5:38 AM
The GOP is not going to vote to extend subsidies. The vote will be meaningless, except for sound bites for ads. The GOP hates the ACA. Trump hates it. They want to destroy it all, privatize SSI, etc. Dems appear gullible. Hope I’m wrong. Maybe in a month I’ll see it differently…
November 11, 2025 at 5:31 AM
Doubt highly that Dems will do this again in January. Too much. Hope I’m wrong.
November 11, 2025 at 4:24 AM
Riding a unicycle
November 11, 2025 at 3:57 AM
Yeah. And call restoring SNAP a “win!” Pathetic! Trump owned that cruelty and it wasn’t part of the original shutdown demands but now it’s a “win.” SMFH Dems got Nothing.
