A5 It's important to consistently teach and exhibit proper emotional and social skills. Some students may not see these behaviors at home or outside of school, so it's vital that we show role-model behavior and teach them how to notice if something's wrong and what to do #TeacherEd #safeschools

A4 It provides us with practice and implementation, meaning it helps us notice when HIB is occurring and what the appropriate steps are for action. It also helps us understand its evolution and how it probably changes over time in the what, how, and why of it all #TeacherEd #SafeSchools

Also, We had specific school days (sometimes a week or two), assemblies, activities, and programs dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive environment. #TeacherEd #SafeSchools

A3 My school was incredibly proactive about creating a safe space for students. Last year's summer reading assignment highlighted values and insights relative to being more compassionate and understanding.

A2 I constantly check-in with students. I try to notice their moods and demeanors, how they engage with others (both teachers and students). I also confer with colleagues about certain students if I notice they're "off" and how they recommend I interact with the student #TeacherEd #SafeSchools

Additionally, I create a safe space for them to talk about their issues in school, at home, with friends and family, personal, etc. This has really made an impact on my students as I've tried to listen and be empathetic and understanding.

A1 #TeacherEd #SafeSchools I have class rules, policies, and procedures listed on the wall. I consistently refer to them and sometimes demonstrate them. The desk setup provides students space to collaborate but also have personal time if necessary. Everyone also has clear line of sight to the door.

A5 #TeacherEd #EdTech I use Gmail and Talking Points to communicate with families on student progress, updates, classroom news, etc. I also use Google Classroom and our school homework site to keep families informed on the day's homework assignment.

A4 #TeacherEd #EdTech Technology is great as it can support and facilitate the learning process. It can enhance and fill in any gaps needed for differentiation or accommodation. But, it also requires teachers to monitor student access and keep them focused. This can impact a teacher's effectiveness.

A3 #TeacherEd #EdTech We collaborate in Google Classroom, on Zoom/Google Meet, and in person. We have impromptu get-togethers during prep/lunch periods, briefly during class, and intermittently throughout the school day. Outside of school, these social media chats are quite helpful.

A2 #TeacherEd #EdTech As a middle school ESL teacher, some barriers have been varying levels of digital literacy. Language is sometimes a barrier as well as the students may not understand my instructions for using some tools. I try to be patient and understanding. I also use Google Translate a lot.

A1 #TeacherEd #EdTech I use technology to keep students focused and for additional support and facilitation. I use YouTube to introduce or enhance topics, SchoolAI to guide lessons and self-learning, and many others. I use a Jeopardy-style game for review and other game sites (e.g. blooket).

I try to give feedback as much as possible! I also try to be tactful and mindful of how each of my students likes to receive feedback. Some like it in real-time, in front of the whole class, silently at their desk, or after class. It's important to know my students :)

Some challenges I've faced with my students is how some assessments don't *really* measure much. Sometimes the assessments are just measuring "right vs. wrong" when there's more to learning than just that. I've tweaked some assessments to assess for understanding

I've noticed how perceptive students are especially when what you're saying or doing is of substance. It's important to be positive and optimistic so students can replicate that for themselves and those around them.

Teachers can promote a growth mindset by creating a classroom environment that encourages mistakes and emphasizes them as learning opportunities. Encourage "failure" as a means to success

A1 #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset. One challenge I've noticed are how some of my students don't see themselves as worthy or "unique". They don't try because it may be too hard or they don't want to disappoint themselves. One opportunity I've noticed is how some of my students are willing to learn.

And when I say diving deeply, I mean REALLY trying to understand these students. That could be by talking to adults with disabilities, their families, educating oneself via texts and other content, and more. As best as possible, trying to put yourself in their shoes.

Looking at everything from their perspective can potentially result in better outcomes for these students.
April 12, 2025 at 2:51 PM
A5 #TeacherEd #SpEd Schools and teachers can do this by looking at everything from the lens of students with disabilities via diving deeply into how those students are best supported, practices and routines that "typically" bring success to those students, and more. (continued)

A4 #TeacherEd #SpEd By teaching them what that looks like, showing and modeling how to advocate for oneself, having them define success for themselves and how to get there. As an ESL teacher, I want to remove whatever roadblocks they encounter so they can have the same opportunities as their peers.

A3 #TeacherEd #SpEd Understand their strengths and figure out how to amplify them. Make them feel included and heard in class, whether it's through group work or another mode. Make them feel important and vital to the class' collective growth and progress.

A2 #TeacherEd #SpEd Fidget toys all the way! Also, I know which students are more "active" than others, so I let them get up and move around if they need to as long as it doesn't distract the class. Giving directions in smaller chunks works as well. Sometimes I get carried away and move too quickly
