I keep asking myself this since I adopted Aki & Nuna, two former street dogs, with whom my partner Maria and I, and five cats, share our home. And it's something Eva Meijer and I also navigate in "Straying with street dogs", a new book in which we’ve put our brains and hearts into.

What if we see street dogs not as passive beings, always in need, but as political actors with their own claims to teritory, and their own interests and wishes?
