I would think so too, but usually viewership is lower on holidays as people go out and do other things. Added competition from sports can't help. I'm always surprised they get high viewership for events like this on normal workdays. Either way, it's a big drop.

Just a hunch here, but I suspect some of this drop is due to the fact inauguration day coincided with MLK day. That didn't happen in either 2017 or 2021. Since yesterday was a holiday, there were several college basketball and NBA games competing with the inauguration. 🤷
