I associate Adira (and Armin, to an extent) with the lotus, a symbol of purity, enlightenment, and rebirth. Adi, despite all the deeds she did at Valin's direction, ends up being very pure, and connecting with Armin gives her a new lease on life

The Thyferran gave her a soft smile. “No, it’s fine, I don’t mind,” he said. He took a deep breath, seeming to steel himself against the tide of memories into which he was about to wade. “Sijda was… well, she was a complicated person,” Armin began. “She’d led a pretty hard life. Orphaned, put into slavery by the Empire, ended up on Despayre. She managed to break free, escaped with another prisoner named Rianna Saren, and went rogue for a while. Got mixed up with a guy, Mal Rencorn. He was… I guess he was the first guy she actually loved. Probably the only one, who knows. “Anyway, the two went on the run from the Empire, but he got caught. Tortured, pumped for information he didn’t have. Then he died,” Armin said, frowning. “I… I was the one. I did it. I don’t think Sijda ever forgave me for it.” Serah’s eyes widened in shock. “You…?”

Above, the twin prongs of the stolen VT-49 Decimator jutted out in front of her. The ship had served as her home for the past several months, her way forward from everything that had threatened to mire her. It had most recently been the vehicle with which she’d rescued her sister Alarei from an Imperial fortress on Nur, and before that liberated her world from the vestiges of the Empire. The Eidolon would continue to serve, whether it was the New Republic or as an independent. But now, she felt the time had come for her to leave. She’d miss the ship, the adventure, the camaraderie… Serah took a deep breath, steeling herself for what was to come, and ascended the gangplank one more time. On her way back to the first officer’s quarters, Serah met her sister, who had herself just stepped off the lift from the bridge. “Sis!” Alarei said. “Are you getting ready to head out? Or heading to bed?”

The lightsabers crackled and sparked as they collided with one another, an endless flurry of strikes, blocks, and parries that consumed all three combatants. Aqua, fuchsia, and crimson all performed a spectacular show of light as they danced together. Despite their familiarity with one another, Armin and Sijda could not find a definitive advantage over Exar Kun, and the Sith Lord threatened to overpower the two with his double-bladed saber. “Do you believe you can defeat me, spent as you are?” the Dark-sider asked. “Your energy is mine, boy. Your power serves me and crushes you. You and the alien are nothing. You will die here, in this void, with nothing to save you. The only way to defeat me is to give in to your anger.” He advanced again, pushing Armin and Sijda toward the edge of the path and to certain oblivion. The Twi’lek dipped under the Sith’s blade, dancing her way to his opposite side and trying to strike, but Kun’s reflexes allowed him to block her blow before returning his attention to Armin. With a mighty blast from the Force, Kun sent the Thyferran flying. Armin dug his saber into the path to stop his momentum; surprisingly, miraculously, it held.

“I hope you remember that when she’s stolen, sabotaged, or scuttled your ship,” the major said, narrowing her eyes. “I won’t be around to help you clean it up.” “Understood,” Armin said, as she turned and marched back to the airlock. “What was that all about?” Serah asked quietly. “Those two… have history,” Armin muttered. “So it was probably a mistake asking for her help.” “Because emotionally compromised agents can botch even the simplest missions?” Serah asked. “Yeah… which seems to be par for the course for me,” Armin said, sighing. “On the bright side, the key difference between us and the Major is that Tolvan has a strict adherence to order…” “Whereas we function better in chaos,” Serah finished. “Right, and every byte of information about Aphra screams ‘Chaos Incarnate’. So it’ll be another day in the office for us,” the Thyferran said.

The captain nodded - silently, this time - and returned his attention to the security console. After plucking away at the controls, the monitor blinked, the live recording shifting to an earlier image. A corridor, nondescript, not unlike any other in the Empire. As the camera rolled, a door opened, and four stormtroopers filed out into the hall. No, not stormtroopers. They weren’t nearly as disciplined. In formation, they marched along the corridors, nearing a door guarded by two other troopers. There was a silent exchange of words. “Is there audio?” Blackfeather asked. “No, sir,” the captain responded. “That door leads into the hangar, and the noise from the operations inside would render audio recordings useless.”

He admits his faults freely, discusses his plans openly, whether they’re good or bad. And most of them have been bad.” She gave the other woman an amused smile. “I just don’t know,” Adira said. “I’ve spent so long expecting the other boot to drop, and I haven’t been disappointed yet. I learned to just not get attached to anyone. Especially after the way Valin used me and left me to die.” “If you only expect the worst, it will come to pass,” Merrin said. “You must allow yourself to believe that good things can happen as well. It is the difference between a comforting hearthfire and a raging inferno. One will keep you warm and safe, the other will consume you and destroy you.”

Over his suit’s comlink, the voice of Cal Kestis answered him. “You’re there to test your connection to the Force. Out there, it’s you, alone, with nothing but the Force,” the older man explained. “The Force is your only companion, and your most powerful ally. Your goal is to use it to return to safety.” An interesting test of ability, Armin thought. He’d heard stories of Force users using their abilities in all sorts of ways, whether to summon an object to their hands, to predict the actions of an enemy, or addle the mind of a stranger. He wasn’t sure which of these abilities he could use. Or, more correctly, he began to determine which of those abilities he couldn’t use. Altering someone’s mind, he’d been told, generally only worked on the weak-minded, or else those who were not strong in the Force. Everyone currently aboard the Eidolon was skilled in the Force in some way, and he certainly would never think of any of them as weak-minded. Tricking one of them into bringing the ship closer to him was out. He could, however, pull the ship. One of the things both Ahsoka and Cal had told him, when it came to moving objects in the Force, was “size matters not”. Theoretically, he could move an object of any size using the Force, though it would certainly wear on him if he moved things too often, for too long, or tried to move something too large. But here, in space, with nothing to create friction or drag, it should be significantly easier.

The Eidolon emerged from hyperspace in the middle of nowhere. Deep space. The empty void between star systems. Exactly where Armin wanted to be. He shut down the engines, reducing heat emissions from his ship. “What’re you doing?” Fiveseven asked. “Taking a break,” Armin answered. “I just wanted to get out of the Mustafar system. Away from any patrolled space. Somewhere quiet.” “The Pantoran,” Fiveseven said. “She was important to you.” Armin shook his head. “In so many ways. Ways she probably didn’t even realize,” he said. He swallowed past the lump forming in his throat, and his voice cracked. “And now she’s gone, and she’ll never know.”
