How does ageing differ between men and women?

Dr Robin Grolaux (in @nireynon.bsky.social's group) is studying non-linear DNA methylation patterns that reveal key differences in how men and women age and what that means for inflammation and cancer risk.

By studying shark cardiac regeneration, researchers hope to uncover processes that could one day guide innovative therapies for patients recovering from heart attacks.
September 17, 2025 at 12:15 AM
Because sharks are such distant relatives in evolution, their heart cells reveal the most conserved and the most fundamental features of regeneration.
“If a process is shared between sharks and other fish, it’s likely to be fundamental, and that gives us powerful clues.” — Dr Benoit Haerlingen

Can sharks teach us how to repair the human heart?
It might sound odd, but these ancient animals hold powerful clues to cardiac regeneration.

Angel is the recipient of the 2024 Peter Sheehan Young Innovator Award.

Her long-term goal is to translate immune-centred therapies into clinical strategies that restore tissue healing and regeneration across organs.
September 4, 2025 at 12:52 AM
From the skin and retina to the brain and gut, Angel studies how immune cells support regeneration after injury.

In 2024, she published a Nature paper revealing a neuro-immune-regeneration axis in skin and muscle — with potential to treat chronic wounds and non-healing tissues.

We’re continuing to share a behind-the-scenes look at the research presented in our ARMI seminar series.

This week, we heard from Dr Yen-Zhen (Angel) Lu, Senior Research Fellow in the Martino Group.

Her research explores how immune cells help repair damaged tissues across the body.
