He/Him
There's always one joke character in any DnD campaign, and in mine it's a Cleric named Quulahir, (said together it sounds like "clerical error,") who is an ex-accountant that wanted to see the world.

I don't share much in the way of personal doodles, but here's Clovis, a goliath pirate and member of the sporadic DnD game I host with my college buds.

Been experimenting with drawing them in an animated Phil Bourassa type style.

I'll have a bit to share about fun design work for this episode in a couple days after people have had a chance to watch it! For now let me leave you with a cutout of @briamgilbert.bsky.social I made for the episode's user flow.

Sometimes when I’m having a hard day I just look at the dumb T-shirts I’ve made with friends over the years on TKO and realize I’m also an idiot who has a lot of fun.

There are some helpful talks about this, how we aren’t motivated by importance or our own understanding of when something should be done. So what happens is the novelty carries you for a month and then when it drops you’re left with nothing

Posting some older work, this was a baby onesie I illustrated for some parents at Xbox. Fun opportunity to pitch silly illustrations I would never normally get to make

Xbox marketing asked me to put together some box art for this collection, and I jumped at the chance to remake some oldschool pixel art. Lot's of looking at @mossmouth.bsky.social and @snakepixel.art tutorials and pixel discussions.

That moment you realize you illustrated 3 of the 6 images on the ol Xbox

Another illustration, this was for a fantasy collection on Game Pass. I’m glad it got people talking but I do feel bad I got peoples hopes up one of the games had a horse-sized duck.

Big @amongus.innersloth.com fan, (and of course a Jojo fan,) so it was fun to get the creative freedom to illustrate this Game Pass advert for Anime Month.

One of the MANY shitty parts of AI slop, (on top of it being an ethically bankrupt tool built on stolen work being used to replace artists,) is that it finally allows the far right access to propaganda designs no artist would ever make and they’d never pay for.

I still get to work on game pass marketing between Year in Review and other projects, glad to see people still dig my terrible humor.

Without downloading any new pics what’s your energy going into 2025?

Sometimes I get to do full illustrations for Xbox which is a blast, here is an old Akira callout.

The 20th anniversary background was one of the most intimidating to work on up front. It was a net-new project I had to build from scratch, and it had to tie in to the controller it came with. Ultimately I went back to the organic-tech feeling the original Xbox gave me, of being inside the console.

The making of the 360 background was interesting. Made using a library of 360 assets which was super fun to comb through, the software for making dynamic backgrounds is pretty limited in terms of layers, so finding a way to make something that is subtle out of the loudest Xbox era was tricky.

I'm Arlen, an illustrator and now product designer at Xbox! I used to work on Valve merch and random local designs and now spend a lot of time with shades of green, building out Dynamic Backgrounds, marketing illustrations, and packaging.

This illustration had some fun challenges. For example no one could find the original Xbox logo files, so I remade it from scratch to use as an icon on the PC app. The entire background mesh on the keyart was also remade in illustrator.

Back when I started working for Xbox I was tasked with creating keyart for what would become the "Original" dynamic background. This was supposed to harken back to the original Xbox. While the final version was built by a dev team, this static version still lives on the PC app.

It's been awhile since I've done much digital painting, so why not jump in the deep end and make it all at sunset.

In the last four years I met my partner, got married; bought a house and now have a kiddo.

As scared as I am for the future of our country and just climate change in general, it’s been an amazing journey in terms of creating the little family I wasn’t sure I’d ever have.

Just keep swimming

Ok new intro!

My name is Arlen and I'm a designer and illustrator who most recently worked on Xbox products for the last three years. Everything from ads, to UX/UI, to the dynamic backgrounds on the console itself. I've also worked in medical design and for years on Valve workshop merch for Dota 2.
