Shenmue 3’s been dominating my meal choices, esp since I got to Niaowu w/all the restaurants. Lots of buns, dumplings, stir fry, etc. So much food that all have 3D models you can look at & rotate gets me 🤤. I eat dinner while soaking up the vibes & treat it like a virtual vacation complete w/food.

It’s why I’m impressed that Dead Space—also published by EA—was a AAA series that fully commits to cosmic horror by virtue of it (sadly) being cancelled on a cliffhanger. Isaac’s just a dude. A cycle that repeats on a galactic scale w/every civilization CANNOT be stopped by one dude. Space is dead.

I was 16 and younger than 17yo Ryo here when Shenmue came out. Decades later, I’m in my 40s and a contemporary of these cougar aunties while Ryo is still just 17. My reaction to this is very different than his now! Time is a hell of a thing.

Appropriately enough, the fam and I just watched Godfather 2 this weekend. Little sister delighted in seeing they depicted Cuban President Bautista eat shit in it and, goddamn, the obsequiousness on display leading up to that… the solid gold telephone thing really happened too.
