This article has a bemoaning tone over why Seattleites still distrust the police even after 'major reform.' However, this is the most telling quote, and a reason why police in their current structure will never engender an actually safe community. I prefer strong community bonds to police, as well!

This was his follow up btw, if you thought it somehow couldn’t get more deranged

Note what's missing in this newsletter from the Times: discussion of constitutionality, the unyielding power given to a private billionaire, and what this means for "checks & balances". Instead, they give his actions the most banal description, like it's some abstract academic discussion. Disgusting

On the medicine and health research side of things—it looks like federal approvals and funding for various medical activities and research will need some level of “political approval”. Very dark, likely to cause intense harm re: trans care, vaccines, disparities research, amongst others

Not trying to be contrarian—but how do you reconcile this data with reporting from the NYT that Harris lost significant percentages of the vote in Dem counties relative to 2020 while Trump gained there? Not sure of the methodology differences, but these results seem to contradict your chart

The "Why did Trump win/Harris lose" debate is obviously rife with personal biases, but I really don't know how you see this data and think that "Democrats needed to be MORE conservative". Just totally unaware of reality.

Two things about this graph.

1. Honestly, what “fringe left” policies do you want the Democratic Party to abandon? If it’s “get rid of ‘woke’ language” then it’s completely stupid.

2. Why is the story not “wow, the average American voter distribution includes far right beliefs!” ??

On that note, while votes are still being tallied, we should remember that minorities are not to blame for this election

The Matt Yglesias plan to “fix Democrats” is as dumb as you would expect

The whole Jameson Williams gun thing is definitely blown out of proportion, but he should not be held above the law, and I certainly agree with enforcing (and strengthening) gun license laws.

That being said, I hate this moral grandstanding from the police.
