This is ace! Which maths hub is that? Great idea.

Yeah, which is such a shame because education should be about the learning, not the performance 😢

I would avoid teaching SOH CAH TOA too for the same reasons!
I’m not against the formulae themselves, just want an understanding of where they come from. If we were all on that wavelength I think it would support us across both subjects.

Yes apologies, I think my comment is where this turned and I’m similarly not trying to have a go at science teachers, more that this might mean we could share practice much better if this is the emphasis! I feel like many more of the maths community are with me on understanding via proportionality.

My excitement at this was palpable… can I finally get science teachers to do away with formula triangles?! 😂

Me and @studymaths.bsky.social always do the “foundation paper challenge” to see how much of the papers you can do with a ratio table every exam series - it’s a LOT!

Yes! The wheel equally shines light on the thing you don’t want, when you THOUGHT you didn’t care 🤣

I use something like wheeldecide.com in these moments. Often people know what they really want when it looks like it might be another alternative.
If they really don’t care, it picks for you.
Wheel Decide
Can't decide? Wheel Decide for you! Set your own custom choices and then spin the wheel to make the random decision (lunch, movie, anything!)

I’d only really do this with my higher tier groups. But if we drill this enough they’re able to recreate the table in 30 seconds or so.
For foundation, I show them the table with the simplified versions, then ask them to use it a lot and hope some stick. Sometimes drill the 0.5 and 1s…

Often I show the triangles to derive and then we fill in a table like the image. Relies on strong surds.
Sin & cos: both have every value over 2.
Sin goes root 0, root 1, root 2, root 3, root 4 (all over 2) then simplify.
Cos in reverse.

I don’t want to know how I’m perceived 😂 last year we found a bingo card for another teacher with things like “I’ve had enough” and “I’ll just wait” on it, and I couldn’t even consider thinking about what would be on mine 🤣🤣🤣

Oh what an idea. Getting the soup maker out tomorrow 🤩

Thank you! Hoping resting up over the weekend means I’ll be better, but had to miss a friends wedding party tonight and I’m gutted about it 😢
