I ended up writing a whole wrestling au for Otokojuku bc of this. This is for like the 5 ppl following me who care about Otokojuku and pro wrestling
You asked about the students, but I want to preface that I think Edajima gives me major Antonio Inoki vibes, and it’s not just the chin. In this hypothetical wrestling au, Edajima would be the Inoki equivalent, legendary wrestling superstar who started his own promotion (i.e school) with crazy stories tied to his name. Tho in Otokojuku as a promotion, he’d be retired as he focused on management and booking the cards, only making sporadic in-ring surprise appearances. In general, I think some type of grappling is a part of the school’s curriculum for combat and discipline. So on a technical level, all the boys can be somewhat decent at wrestling on the low end of the spectrum. Then you have guys like Momo who’s perfect at everything. He’d be the young, handsome ace for any wrestling company tbh. Doing all the interviews and public speaking, constantly putting on bangers, several successful rivalries/storylines and a grand slam champion. He’d also be the “break glass in case of emergency” transitional, reliable champ when the bookers run out of ideas on the world title scene. The office would’ve pinned him as a future ace and groom him for the position from the start, and while he’d be hesitant/resistant at first, Momo would eventually fall into that role. Toramaru will also be a standout because his sumo background can easily transfer over, and a lot of ex sumo guys have become pro wrestlers too. Very versatile wrestling styles that can do your normal match, but was successful a tag team/trios champ (I’d imagine he’d have tag reigns with Togashi and Date, and trios reigns with misc classmates), can do deathmatches, and comedy matches. I think he’d also surprise everyone by being able to do multiple 60 min iron man matches in his career, thanks to his incredible endurance from his time in the prison of penitence. J might struggle a bit because from what I understand (I could be wrong), not a lot of boxing skills transition well to wrestling, and historically, boxer vs wrestler or mma matches don’t go over well for the boxer. But with his skill tho, he’d def still learn a lot and be good, and you can prob get him to learn some mean lariats and be the promotion’s Stan Hansen. Togashi will be successful in wrestling, not because he’ll win a lot of matches, but because he’s the solid midcard wrestler everyone loves to cheer for despite being booked to lose all the time, purely because of his charisma and fire. Everyone swears next year he’ll get a push but he never does. Until late in his career, he suddenly starts winning and wins the world title off someone like Jaki (who in kayfabe retired his brother); basically just long term storytelling with Togashi’s underdog booking culminating in a late title win as also a thank you for his dedication to the business. The third years would obvs be killer wrestlers; Jaki needs no mention with his size. He’ll def be infamous for a longggggg world title reign, holding the belt hostage, and the audience will be begging for someone to finally beat this guy. But what really elevates the third years’ success will be just how popular their faction will be. My gut just tells me their wrestling skill and interpersonal relationships would make them be super over with fans despite being dominant heels always squashing the young babyfaces; they’re a source of fan discourse in terms of booking for sure. Also shout out Danshoku Deino and the irl wrestler who took that name. Date and Three fists would be another notable stable. Before Momo, Date was originally primed to be the ace, but subsequently got fired and went freelance after shooting on a senior wrestler. He’d meet up with the 3 Fists on the independent circuit and form a faction, gaining international notoriety. Ppl thought Edajima blacklisted him until he was booked in an invasion angle for a program to elevate Momo and the first years. The storyline ending up being so good and hot for business, that Edajima and Date bury the hatchet and joins the promotion again. I think Akashi would be in a similar situation, but instead of getting in trouble shooting on a senior, it would be against some trainees. But as these things go (disrespect against seniors is worse than hurting some trainees which is seen as the norm esp in the 80s), he’s not let go from the promotion but rather, simply not booked by Edajima for a long time. Some speculate if he’s actually been let go, then Akashi makes his surprise return in an angle against the first years’ faction and subsequently, Momo. I don’t think Akashi would have a faction or stable per se, but he’d def surround himself by jobbers to be meat shields for him, and Edogawa would serve as his enforcer.

Match had all the silliness expected but the comments from Chris saying Zack was the first one to know about his cancer diagnosis and being there for him at his lowest to how close they’ve become since, I’m glad they got to have a match like this
