The ARISS ops teams have shared an update on the status of the radio equipment in the Service Module (Russian Segment) of the ISS.

The Columbus module based radios (Cross-band voice repeater and HamTV) continue to function nominally.
A photo and informational graphic from the Amateur Radio on the ISS (ARISS) program shows a Kenwood D710E ham radio transceiver and microphone newly installed inside the ISS Service Module (Russian segment). The display reads 145.800 MHz. Overlaid text provides an official update as of 20 November 2025: Service Module Radio Update on status of the packet system on the ISS as of 20-Nov. The original Kenwood D710GA radio has been replaced with the onboard spare D710E (shown in the photo). This radio will support Russian school contacts and serve as backup communications. Additional testing of the original D710GA will be conducted to determine the root cause of the recent outage that occurred during an SSTV event. After 3 days of troubleshooting the ARISS ops team has determined SSTV Series 30 can not continue.

Please follow ARISS social for updates on repair and future SSTV events.
Message reads: SSTV Series 30: Scrubbed The ARISS radio in the Service Module used for SSTV is being taken out of service. ARISS SSTV Series 30 started Wednesday 12-Nov. and sent images for about 2 hours before an issue occurred with the radio. Therefore, SSTV Series 30 has ended. Certificates will be available for those capturing the early images if they are uploaded to ariss-usa.org/ARISS_SSTV/ by 23:59 UTC (6:59 PM ET) on Tue. 18-Nov. Teams will determine when the next event will occur after additional troubleshooting takes place. The SSTV radio will currently only transmit for 4 seconds at a time. A backup radio, not configured for SSTV, will be put in place to serve several Russian STEM contacts this week.

25 years ago this week the ISS Expedition 1 crew activated their first educational payload. Amateur Radio on the International Space Station went on the air with two test contacts!

Here's an update from ARISS regarding SSTV Series 30.
The message reads: Here's update from the ARISS team regarding this event as of Saturday 15-Nov at 19:00 UTC Thank you to the ham radio community for your ongoing patience as SSTV has been offline since starting on Wednesday. Troubleshooting efforts are underway, with the solar storms adding complexity. U.S. teams are awaiting official guidance from the ARISS Russia operations team regarding next steps. Those who successfully received images early in the event and submitted them to the gallery have received their certificates. We will provide updates as soon as new, official information becomes available.

On Sunday, November 16, at 14:53 UTC (9:53 AM ET / 6:53 PM AZT local time), ISS crew member Mike Fincke, using the callsign KE5AIT, will conduct a direct amateur radio contact with the SPACE Academy of Azercosmos in Baku, Azerbaijan, via the station’s callsign OR4ISS. The ground station will operate under the callsign 4K4AZE and can be heard on 145.800 MHz FM. HamTV outage upcoming Wednesday.

HamTV transmissions will take a pause on Wednesday to enable other human research payload operations.

When operating, HamTV is transmitting a signal but no media is being sent. We'll share when future uses are planned.

Remember, beginning Wed. 12-Nov, SSTV Series 30 will replace APRS for 9 days, so get those packets sent while you can!
As of Tuesday, 4 November, the ISS Columbus Module radio is configured as a crossband repeater with a downlink on 437.800 MHz and an uplink on 145.990 MHz using PL 67 Hz. The Service Module radio is set for Packet (APRS) on 145.825 MHz for both uplink and downlink. HamTV is currently active, transmitting a blank AV signal on 2395 MHz (2.395 GHz). From 12–20 November, SSTV Series 30 will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the International Space Station and Scouting by sending 12 PD-120 images over nine days, with transmissions beginning around 17:30 UTC (12:30 PM ET) on Wednesday, 12 November on 145.800 MHz; a certificate will be available. Upcoming ARISS 25th anniversary milestones include the first test of the ISS amateur radio payload on 13 November during Expedition 1 (with Russia and then the USA), and the first educational contact on 21 December with Bill Shepherd and The Burbank School in the US. All event timings are subject to change.
