Balance and cross-disciplinary work obviously hugely important but on a practical level we need to plan an achievable curriculum that 'fits' and allows for depth of learning so I'm interested to hear others views.

Anything to do with the "value" of using cold tasks *shudders*. Let's make the children show us how much they don't know before we teach it. It's nothing or next to nothing. Surprise. A wasted lesson.

Texts that open doors to the wider world and make pupils answer the big philosophical and ethical questions without even realizing they are doing it.
Finally, anything that provides them a chance to explore a part of them they didn't know existed- through text or curriculum or skill set.

Children, just like us, need to feel there's a purpose in what they do that extends beyond them and if you can harness that through the curriculum you're onto a winner. Real world applications are huge.
