There are so many problems with Beloved, especially if your student population is predominantly Black. They know all about slavery (and many with a family history of the worst parts). Her novel Sula is much better. Do you have that?

I taught Beloved to juniors for the past two years, but this year we switched it to All American Boys. Instead of feeding into the history of slavery, I'll lead more current conversation around police brutality and racial profiling.

I don't know, but James Bond should follow in the footsteps of Doctor Who with a Black Bond.
